Jewish Heritage Discussion Group
JEWISH HERITAGE DISCUSSION GROUP: NEXT MEETING ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH, 12:30-2:00PM AT FOLLEN’S MARSHMAN BUILDING Anyone is welcome to participate in our discussion of “Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths” by Bruce Feiler (author of the book and public TV program, “Walking the Bible”). This profound and easy-to-read memoir looks at the beginnings of all three great monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam, through the perspective of Abraham, the father of all three.
This new Follen group began meeting in September of 2008. Comprising about 20 members from diverse family and religious backgrounds, the group gathers monthly to share stories, learn more about Judaism, and explore ways to integrate Jewish practices into worship and activities at Follen.
For the upcoming fall 2009-spring 2010 season we have planned three Shabbat dinners, a Seder, and four discussion sessions focusing on books and movies. The dinners offer an introduction to Shabbat rituals, prayers, and songs, a traditional meal, and a brief after-dinner program. Past discussion sessions have reflected upon the meaning of Passover, the significance of Jewish humor in our lives, and our group viewing of the Nova special, “The Bible’s Buried Secrets.”
If you have an interest in Judaism or Jewish culture, we invite you to join us. Contact marleneellin@comcast.net to add your name to the mailing list.
